Artist Q/A (May 2024)

Q: Why'd you start making music?

A: I had always been a big fan of hip-hop ever since I heard them on those old CDs with random Tupac, Biggie, or N.W.A. songs that were sold at the mall. Around the same time I was writing poetry with no other reason that I had liked it. But there was a moment in my formative years where I learned 2Pac had started his artistic life with poetry. So one day, with no real preface, during the first year of High School I walk up to the bestest homie and ask if he wants to start rapping. It's been downhill/uphill ever since.

Q: How would you describe your music?

A: A lot of the time I want it to feel very exploratory sonically and lyrically. I'm particularly introspective, but I also like to bop my head so I kinda want to live on that intersection of sad themes but cold ass production.

Q: Who's getting a diss track before you die?

A: More than likely Jake, my bandmate in Take Me To Your Leader. The tipping point will probably be something innocuous like he'll probably sneeze in the studio one day while I'm in a bad mood and it's over.

Q: What album could you listen to every day?

A: It's Dark and Hell is Hot by DMX

Q: Who you tryna collab with?

A: It would be crazy cool to collab with some of my OG hip-hop influences like Atmosphere or ¡Mayday!

Q: Any advice for aspiring musicians or music execs?

A: Do what you love and don't overthink shit. Trust your instinct. Unless your instinct is shit but I mean I'd hope you would have cultivated it to some degree before attempting something so stupid like making music for a living.
